I don't like the status bar does not display the correct signal strength.

Just a suggestion , you can reference :
github.com/khadas/android_hardware_wifi_realtek_drivers_8723bs/tree/Oreo

this should can help you

and , you even can update this driver kernel API from 3.14 to 4.18 (or more newer), but it will need lots of hardwork i think.

then Fix build error should OK

you have problem with rtl8723bu.
you had been study make targz-pkg, seem i haven't tell you about cross
compile at phoenixstudio forum.

you need latest rtl8723bu sourceuse the command make KSRC="kernel source
tree directory" cross compile 8723bu module.

mkdir 1
cd 1
git init
git fetch https://github.com/youling257/android-4.9
experimental/android-mainline-4.19-tracking
git checkout FETCH_HEAD
make android-x86_64_defconfig -C . O=../64
cd ../64
time make targz-pkg -i -j8

cd ..
mkdir 2
cd 2
git init
git fetch https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723bu master
git checkout FETCH_HEAD
(edit Makefiledelete -g)
make KSRC=../64 -j8

cross compile use make KSRC.
i planed reply above these at this thread
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-x86/K7s7rKMrFoQ , but say
English people can't understand my these.

lucky is broadcom,marvell,ath wifi driver has NL80211_STA_INFO_TX_FAILED,
https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/latest/ident/NL80211_STA_INFO_TX_FAILED
I'm not see any Realtek wifi driver has NL80211_STA_INFO_TX_FAILED.
only add NL80211_STA_INFO_TX_FAILED for rtl8723bs wifi driver,
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=201611#c18

why not delete wificond net/netlink_utils.cpp these line?
if (!sta_info.GetAttributeValue(NL80211_STA_INFO_TX_FAILED, &tx_bad)) {
LOG(ERROR) << "Failed to get NL80211_STA_INFO_TX_FAILED";

You can . build/envsetup.sh >/dev/null && lunch android_x86-userdebug
/dev/null && make -j4 wificond , send me 32bit wificond binary.
I did repo sync cm14.1 source, did these command,
export LC_ALL=C
export USE_NINJA=false
. build/envsetup.sh >/dev/null && lunch cm_android_x86-userdebug >/dev/null
&& make -j4 sepolicy
. build/envsetup.sh >/dev/null && lunch cm_android_x86-userdebug >/dev/null
&& make -j4 vold
. build/envsetup.sh >/dev/null && lunch cm_android_x86-userdebug >/dev/null
&& make -j4 bluetooth.default
never built iso.

I don't have enough space sync oreo source to build binary.
